We’re out in the country this week and are loving every second of just being together in the outdoors. When I was a child my favorite childhood memory was going to my Aunt’s house. She lived in an area where everyone had horses and horse barns. Coming from a neighborhood on quarter acre lots this was a big deal for me as a child.
I remember marveling at all the space we had to run around and be (loud) kids. We rode horses, played hide-and-seek in the orange groves, and stayed outside from morning until it was too dark to see. Watching my children enjoy the freedom of exploration and nature warms my heart and makes me remember the times I was at my Aunt’s house.
I hope my kids look back on these days with as much fondness. You can follow our adventures this week on my Instagram feed.

This week I gave a tour of our home on Design Mom’s Living with Kids series. Although I was initially nervous, I really thought it was an honor to be on it because I truly love the series. Gabrielle goes out of her way to ensure that the series is very diverse. Not only can you see homes in other parts of the United States, but also other parts of the world. I love that! Our house was not without a tad bit of controversy, as you will see in the comments, but the overall vibe was one of support and appreciation for participating. If you’re a reader from Design Mom, I thank-you for stopping by and welcome you!
So much is being said about the Abercrombie and Fitch CEO’s views and his ‘target market’. I don’t personally shop there, but my thought is that there are a lot of other clothing stores in the world. I believe entrepreneurs should be free to market their goods or services to whomever they wish, as long as it’s not against the law. What do you think?
Encouragement for Mothers on Mother’s Day
True story.
I almost forgot this weekend was Mother’s Day.
My gift to you this Mother’s Day is encouragement. Especially if you’re battling infertility.

Those trees and that turtle are not what I was expecting the country to look like! Florida is like a foreign country to me, apparently :). Happy Mothers Day!

Haha, so true! We have some rougher country too. I will post more pics this weekend. I had a hard time choosing pics for the posts but my Instagram feed has quite a bit more. Did you know that Florida is home to the Original Cowboy? You’ll have to excuse the homeschool Mom in me. But it is. I’m enjoying learning so much more about the state I grew up in. Florida Crackers (named because of the cracking sound of the bullwhip) are the original cowboys.

Florida Crackers? hahaha! That just makes me laugh. I honestly did not know that. I think in Texas, the cowboys were caballeros from Mexico. But don’t quote me on that because it’s been a long time since I’ve studied Texas history.

I found your blog via Design Mom, and I’m so glad I did. I’m sorry some of those comments were nasty, I was actually pretty ashamed to be in the company of a few of the women who based so much judgement on so little knowledge.
I’ve been hooked on reading about your lovely family and life ever since I came over here! You truly are blessed, although trust me I’m sure you have plenty of tough days too. I just wanted to thank you for sharing insight into your life and processes; I’m taking away a ton of inspiration, and I will definitely be a reader from now on.
I think you clearly lead a balanced, thoughtful and loving life, and you have exceptional taste and creative talent. I’m the lucky mom to a wonderful 12 month old boy, and 8 year old stepson, and I have a little girl due in November. Your ideas about things like zones are great; the clutter of having a little one has been driving me crazy. That’s a great way to cope. My husband is a pilot, so I can definitely identify with the time spent as a mom alone with the kids. Go you, lady, you have so much to be proud of!

Hopped over to Design Mom’s and just had to say…
1. Star fruit? YUM!!!
2. Cork board in the hallway– loooooove that idea!
3. You already know I think your blue side cabinet and pool are gorgeous.
4. Haven’t gotten to controversy part yet. Do I even want to go there? I hope they play nice.

“: I wish someone had told me that kids are resilient, and you cannot ruin them for life by making one parenting mistake.”
I love that. I need to remind myself of this fact often.

thank you for being open enough to do the home tour on DesignMom. If you hadn’t I might not have discovered your blog! Your home and your ideas for it were really neat and I loved seeing how you all designed things. I am also inspired by your evident joy in and enthusiasm for motherhood. Reading parts of your blog was like a boost when I have been worn down by the job lately, and encouraged me to do some things differently. I will be checking in on your homeschooling blog too. Your family is lovely and again, thanks for letting us have a view into your creative ideas and your family’s world!
