As a mother I know that sometimes I am so focused on the care, training and discipline of my children that I sometimes forget to just have fun with them! This is something my husband excels at and I must admit that I sometimes feel envious that the children look to him as the “fun” parent whereas I am the Mom with the rules and the the lesson plans.
Of course I know they also have fun with me, but the truth is I don’t often make playing with them my priority. I sometimes take parenting so seriously that I forget to just have fun.
This week I’d like to challenge you (and myself) to bring the fun back to motherhood. This week lets start with the kids. Next week we’ll talk about bringing fun back to motherhood.
Fun ideas to try this week:
Make Grannie’s award winning fudge with (or for) your children
Spend the day playing with your children. Forget the household chores for a day—the mess will still be there tomorrow.
Host a Backwards Dinner party where you start with dessert!
Let your kids be boss for a day. Allow them (within reason and safety) to choose what activities you will do with them and what the menu for the day will be.
Host a Marathon Movie, Board Game, Read-Aloud, or Video Game day.
Have a Slumber Party with your kids where you all sleep together on sleeping bags, in your bedroom, or a tent in the family room or backyard!
Plan a scavenger hunt

Even though I do fun things with the kids all the time, it is still never fun-mommy… always fun-daddy! *sigh*
Thanks for the reminder and the great ideas, Karin!

GREAT ideas – I really like these. It definitely requires intention because the “have to” so often outweighs the “want to” with parenting. But playing is really a “Have to” isn't it? Thanks for the reminder!!!
