31 Days of Intentional Parenting: {Day10} Praying for yourself

Prayer is a powerful method of not only putting your faith and trust in God but also for pursuing intentional parenting. Many of us have areas in our parenting where we feel we fall short. Perhaps we are not as patient as we would like to be. Or maybe we spend more time criticizing our children than praising them. Maybe we find ourselves not really being present when we are with our children. Or maybe we are loathe to give them the discipline they need because we are afraid of them disliking or us, or find it easier to just give in to them than deal with the fall out. We may even at times feel resentful of our children when the sacrifices of motherhood seem to overwhelm us and leave us wishing we had more time to be selfish…or just take a shower.

Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord.
Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.
Lamentations 2:19

No matter what areas of parenting we feel we are falling short on we can be intentional in our prayer to do better. When you pray for help in your parenting you are acknowledging that you cannot do this on your own, you need God’s help. He is the ultimate model of parenthood for us.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Phillippians 4:13
